Two charged with burglary at Maryville Walmart

Two St. Joseph residents have been charged in connection with a burglary incident at Maryville's Walmart on Wednesday.

28-year-old Myra Ann Bernard was charged with Class D felony Burglary in the First Degree and a Class A misdemeanor Assault in the Fourth Degree. Myra Bernard was also charged as a persistent felony offender. 27-year-old Zachary Dale Bernard was charged with Class D felony Burglary in the First Degree and Class A misdemeanor of stealing.

Nodaway County Prosecuting Attorney Robert Rice says the two attempted to leave the Walmart store with merchandise after Myra Bernard had struck a Walmart employee.

"Both had a cartful of merchandise going through the self-checkout line.  They were approached by one clerk.  There was an exchange there.  There was an indication that they no longer wanted certain property that they had carried with them declaring that they no longer wanted to purchase it.  The individuals then proceeded to leave Walmart.  One clerk working for Walmart attempts to approach them asking for a receipt to confirm that they had purchased the item.  It was reported that Myra then punched that clerk about her face and the two left with the merchandise."

Rice adds Myra and Zachary Bernard had previously been barred from entering any Walmart following previous incidents at the company's stores.
